Consumption of eggs Indonesian society is still low. According to a survey conducted Livestock Research Center in 2008, egg consumption in Indonesia is only 75 eggs per year per capita. In developed countries, egg consumption has reached 330 eggs per capita per year or nearly one item per day.
Among ASEAN countries, Indonesia is currently ranked second lowest after Vietnam in egg consumption. If this situation persists may be displaced into the rankings at the end.
"People should be given information about the importance of eating eggs because they contain high protein," said Chairman of Indonesian Poultry Science Society Desianto Budi Utomo in Livestock Research Center (Balitnak) Bogor, Wednesday (11/12).
Budi explains, information about the egg and the benefits that exist in the egg is relatively small. Yet in one egg is equivalent to 30 twenty grams of poultry meat which is enough to meet daily protein needs.
Based on the results of a national survey issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, in a family budget cigarette consumption is far greater than the consumption of eggs every day. Therefore, the campaign regarding egg consumption should be increased. "In addition to improving nutrition, eggs can increase the intelligence of children," said Budi.
